Hot Water Checks

Hot Water Not Working

Is the boiler turned on*?

Is the programmer calling for hot water* (have you turned the hot water on)?

Is there water coming out of the tap?

Check there are no valves on the pipework that have been turned off. If they have turn them back on. Check if there is an airlock and remove if thats the case. If all valves on the pipework are open properly and it is not airlocked then it is mostly likely the tap itself - so repair/replace it.

Is the hot water thermostat calling for hot water* (have you turned it up)?

Has the motorised valve motored over?*

Is the flow and return pipework getting hot?

If the pipework is only getting hot one side, takes along time or not at all then there is a blockage. This could be either the inside of the motorised valve not opening or a blockage inside the pipework. In either case further investigation is required.

Then water is okay.

Try manually pushing the arm across, this should allow the water through the valve and the pipework will start to heat up.

If you  found that you answered yes to a "is it turned on?" type of question but it still wasn't on or working then  further checks are required. Steps with * may require electrical testing to further prove if at fault. These checks are not covered in this basic checks section.

Turn it on, if working stop. If still not working carry on with chart.
